Family Oestreicher from Theilheim, Bavaria

11. Dec 201823. Jan 2019Leave a comment

An album of field post from WWI recently came into my possession. I noticed that around 20 postcards were addressed to the same father Johann Oestreicher from Theilheim, Bavaria between 1915 and 1918. That family had all their 3 sons Georg, Wilhelm and Hubert fighting in that terrible war. I couldn't shake the horrible question … Continue reading Family Oestreicher from Theilheim, Bavaria

20.04.1916 "Dear Emma, Here's a picture as a thank you for the lovely package you sent. You will find me rather changed as at the time this photo was taken I didn't have a moustache. By the way, this photo was taken on the front line, 100 meters from the French. I wish you and … Continue reading “Dear Emma, …”

One of my favourite colours this winter is deep purple. Perhaps my look for 2020💜 For day 6 "My new year look" for #new_year_magic_challenge by @nelli_milady and @faces_and_style #new_year_magic_challenge_6 Photo by hubby #vintageinspired #retrostyle #vintagelook #vintagestyle #faces_and_style
For day 5 "New Year's games" for #new_year_magic_challenge by @nelli_milady and @faces_and_style Soviet time Father Frost would bring presents on December 31st. Children would have to recite a poem or sing a song to receive their presents. Adults would usually play along and do the same. I think it's actually a nice tradition because it makes the evening longer as you slowly receive the presents one at a time and the family shares good laughs and songs. Here my little mum is clearly happy with her lot. She is the bright smile on the right. She now suspects her uncle Viktor was the Father Frost every year, but the girls could never identify him back in the day😊🎅 Photo from my family photo album from the 1950s with some Soviet era ornaments. #new_year_magic_challenge_5 #genealogyphotoaday #family #ancestors #familyheritage #ancestry #myheritage #reallifetimetravels #timetravel #oldphoto #familyphoto #familyphotoalbum #genealogy #savefamilyphotos #savefamilymemories #familyhistory #генеалогия #womanthroughacentury #gpad_feature #ahnenforschung #familiengeschichte #vintagechristmas #christmas

The roaring 20s will start again🎉! Oh boy, 100 years ago those were some wild and crazy times! Perhaps I will pay tribute to my favourite time travel era and celebrate New Year's in the 20s style this year🥳😜 For day 3 "This is how I celebrate New Year's Eve" for #new_year_magic_challenge by @nelli_milady and @faces_and_style #new_year_magic_challenge_3 #vintageinspired #retrostyle #vintagelook #vintagestyle #faces_and_style #1920sfashion #flapper #1920s #roaringtwenties
For day 2 "New Year traditions" of the #new_year_magic_challenge by @nelli_milady and @faces_and_style New Year's Eve in Germany is called Silvester, named after a Pope in the 4th century. Shortly before New Year's Eve, people you meet will typically wish you a "Guten Rutsch," which literally translates as "have a good slide." The expression could also derive from the Yiddish word "rosch" as in Rosh Hashanah, the name of the Jewish New Year. Other linguists relate the expression to the archaic German meaning of "Rutsch" - a journey. You must eat Sauerkraut or Lentilsoup, so that you won't run out of money in the new year. Another fun tradition is Bleigießen which literally means lead-pouring. You melt small pieces of lead in a spoon over a candle, pour the liquid lead into a bowl with cold water. The resulting shapes are fairly bizarre. Use your imagination to determine what the figures look like. A fun way of fortune-telling. #new_year_magic_challenge_2 #vintageinspired #retrostyle #vintagelook #vintagestyle #faces_and_style
